About

blurtonvision.co.uk is a web site for the residents of Blurton in Stoke on Trent. It uses a combination of free tools available on the internet to create a live map of activity in the neighbourhood. blurtonvision.co.uk was originally created as a tool for consultation during the development of a masterplan for the area, allowing residents to see and comment on proposals for change. Now that the changes are beginning to take place the website has been redesigned to provide a new way for residents to publish information about their community.

Clicking on the options in the top right hand corner of the map will allow you to show various types of information…

Map: The map has been drawn using Open Street Map, allowing us to add and change the information shown whenever necessary without any delay or commercial restrictions often created by other maps. With the help of the Open Street Map community a weekend mapping party took place to get us started. If you’d like to help add info or improve the map please get in touch for advice, or alternatively take a look at the instructions on the Open Street Map wiki and get started yourself!

Fixmystreet: You can let your neighbours and Stoke City Council know about things you’d like to improve in your area by using the free tools at fixmystreet.com. Once you’ve reported your issue there it will automatically show here on the map.

Planning: We’ve connected the map to the Stoke on Trent planning application system. Any new application that’s submitted will show here on the map with a house icon, letting you know what changes are proposed for your neighbourhood.

Photos: If you have any photos of the neighbourhood that you’d like to show on the map they can be submitted to the photo group and given a location. If you’re a keen photographer you might like to start a free account at the photo sharing web site flickr.com and then join the blurtonvision group to send us pictures. You can also take part in the Geograph British Isles project and submit photos to that site, then they’ll show here on our own map.

Social Media: In the coming weeks we’ll be experimenting with a number of other web sites that allow people to publish news and comments such as twitter.com and audioboo.com. Watch this space!
